Myanmar Tourist Visa (Stamp Visa)
A valid Passport with Entry Visa is required of all visitors. A tourist Visa allows a stay of 28 Days, extendible for an additional 14 Days. Overland entry is permitted for Thai tourist with border pass and for third party tourists with cisa at Tachileik, Three Pagoda Pass, Myawaddy and Kawthaung check points along Myanmar- Thai Border: and for Chinese tourist with border pass and for third party tourists with visa at Lweje, Nam Kham, Muse, Kyukoke, Kwanlong, Mont Lar along Myanmar-China Border.
For Online Visa to Myanmar ( E-visa )
Myanmar Immigration has been appointed for the online visa application at the end of 2014. So, visitors to Myanmar are recommended to apply the online visa for visiting to Myanmar. The E-visa to Myanmar can be applied by 100 Nationalities. The application process will take 03 Working days for approval. The approval letters will be sent to your email by Myanmar Immigration. The approval Letter is valid 90 days after issue date. Visitors are permitted to stay 28 days in Myanmar from the date of arrival. The visa fee is US$ 50 per person and it is non-refundable in the case of reject. E-visa is valid only for a Single entry and for the re-entry; the visitor must required a new Visa. Customs and Formalities on Arrival
All items your valuables of jewellry, cameras , electronic equipment and etc ..must be declared upon arrival and on the declaration forms. Travellers should have completed these forms during the flight to Yangon and should submit them upon arrival. .
Receipt of purchase and an expot permit voucher for locally bought goods such as gems and jewelry may be required upon on departure .
Export of Buddha images, gemstones and antiques without an official receipt is prohibited.
In Myanmar, there are nine domestic airlines operating around every domestic desitnations. They are Air Mandalay, Yangon Airways, Air Bagan, Asia Wings, Air KBZ, Mann Yadanabon, Myanmar National Airlines, APEX Airlines, Golden Myanmar Airlines and FMI Air. All the Airlines operate with a fleet of French made ATR-72 or ATR-42 aircrafts wherever possible (only Golden Myanmar Airlines daily sector between Yangon and Mandalay operate Airbus 320. Baggage allowance on domestic flights is limited to 20kg. Excess luggage will be on clients account or can be left in Yangon hotels for collection on return from upcountry (only if they have second call in Yangon) .In the case of excess luggage, the client must pay on their own. All domestic tickets are include airport taxs in tickets.
For the visitors to Myanmar, no vaccination is necessary. Malaria prophylaxis is no longer recommended, but travellers are suggested to check with their doctor the advisability of inoculation against typhoid, hepatitis and tetanus. Insect repellent is recommended as well as a sun protection cream. Visitors are strongly advice not to drink tap water, but purified bottled water are easily available everywhere.
No inoculations or vaccinations are required unless coming from or passing through an infected area. As tourism indurstry in Myanmar thrives rapidly in a very short period, there are many luxury boutique hotels and international four to five stars properties were introduced to Yangon, Bagan and Mandalay. Travelers should not expect deluxe properties in the Inle lake area, but there are lots of choice of amazing, charming, traditional accommodation or Chinese style multiple-storied hotels. As Sittwe/ Mrauk – U/ Kengtung, Loikaw and Monywa are remote and undeveloped area, the standard of accommodations will be very basis in there. But Amazing Oriental Travels will endeavor its greatest effort to provide most suitable accommodation available. Due to limited hotel supplies outside Yangon and Mandalay, Amazing Oriental Travels cannot assure the specific hotel requests and reserves. The right to substitute accommodation of the best available alternative standard especially during the high season.
The country code for international calls is (95) . For the telecommunication, the service is improving however the connection is sometimes still poor and international calls are expensive. There is no public phone system with a pre-paid call systems. Very recently e-mail services and internet access can be available at limited internet cafes in Yangon and major hotels in big cities.
There are two types of GSM SIM cards available in Myanmar; Ooredoo and Telenor which are only 1500 MMK and you can buy easily in everywhere. The calling price is only 25/35 MMK per minutes within the country. It is possible for international calling with particular prices.
The major traditional food in Myanmar is rice is the main food,serving with a variety of side dishes; curries with cooked meat or fish, fresh vegetables, salads, soups and etc. The taste of the curries are quite similar to Thai Cuisine but less spicy. There are a lot of Myanmar, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Korean and European style restaurants in major cities but Indian cuisine is available only in major hotels and some outstanding restaurants in Yangon. Shan (one of the major tribe in Myanmar) traditional foods are famous around Myanmar.
The restaurants used by Amazing Oriental travels are carefully selected from the gastronomical and hygienic point of view. But in some particulat regions where only poor dining opportunities are available, Amazing Oriental travels will arrange the best possiblilities for the clients.
Even though Myanmar has opened most areas of the country for foreign visitors, few areas such as Chin Hill and Kachin State (Snow Mountain) still need State government permission. Amazing Oriental Travels will try our best to get the required permission in time but the procedure must start in advance at least 10 working days. Enquiring the update situation in advance to Amazing Oriental is recommended.
For sightseeing, Amazing Oriental Travel provides air-conditioned vehicles and coaches where available. But in some remote areas, the mean of transportation will be very basis and for these exceptional places, Amazing Oriental Travel will arrange the best available. The conditions of the roads are also not good especially for the highways and duration takes longer than expected in the rainy season(June to August). Public train, ferryboat and express buses are available to major towns, however, these are generally lower standard and uncomfortable. The boat trip between Mandalay and Bagan is operated by a local Chinese-built ferry (except in summer season) is used and takes about 8-10hours. The type of transfer by boat (between Sittwe- Mrauk U/ Bagan – Pakokku/ Mandalay- Mingun) will be by local private boat and the standard will be very basis.
Currency and Exchange
The currency used in Myanmar is Myanmar Kyats. But it is possible to change your currency to local Myanmar Kyats. There are lots of money exchange counter around the major cities where you can make currency easily. But only US$, Euro and Singapore $ can change easily. For the foreign visitors, US$ is preferred to use in traveling around Myanmar because the payment for Hotels and domestic flights can make only by US$.
We strongly recommend to bring along cash US$ also in small denomination. Recently, Credit Card- VISA, MASTER and UNION PAY usage is available in Myanmar, but 4.35% of total bill will be charged as a bank handling charge.
There are lots of ATM machine in every where around the Major tourist destinations in Myanmar. Master Card or Visa Card or Union Pay cards are usable within those ATM machines.
International Airport Tax
International Airport tax will be included the international flight tickets, it means client doesn’t need to pay as an extra. The Domestic Airport Tax is 2000 Myanmar Kyats, but it is also included in the domestic flight ticket.
There is a wide practiced on tipping around Myanmar as an addition to the service charged shown in the billof restaurant and hotel. Tipping to the drivers and boat men are also practiced, but there is no exact limit and it depends upon the satisfication of their services. Portage fees at airport are more or less 500 Kyats per bag.
As Myanmar is rich in the handicrafts and natural resorces, it is one of best counties for shopping. All varieties of souvenirs including -lacquer ware, silver ware, wood and stone curving, hand -woven silk and cotton, precious and semi precious gems, tapestries, puppets and traditional are available throughout the country. For the safety, Jewellery should be purchased through an authorized dealer who will issue a receipt so that the items can be exported. Export of antiques and archeological objects are strongly prohibited. Amazing Oriental Travels advise visitors to purchase only the allowed items of handicrafts and art objects from the registered souvenir shops and strongly recommend to ask the official certified receipt from the shops. Any illegal trade of prohibited items will result in heavy penality. Bargaining is an elemental part of Myanmar life in small shops and markets.
Power supply and electricity
Amazing Oriental Travels use mostly the hotel accommodation with Almost all the types of accomodation with 24 hours electricity supply (with a generator if need).
But in some isolated areas, like Sittwe – Mrauk u and Kengtung- generated power will be with time limitlike 6-10 pm only.
Light cotton and cool fabric are most appropriate throughout the year because Myanmar is a tropical country closed to Equator. But Amazing Oriental advise the visitors to bring sweater or jacket and socks if the client is willing to visit the hilly regions especially in the cool season since the temperature is sometimes below 0 degree centigrade.
As Myanmar is a very devoted Buddhist country. Visitors are requested to dress appropriately when visiting pagodas, temples, monasteries, religious buildings as well as in open public areas. Shoes and socks must always be removed before entering temples, pagodas and monasteries. Shoes and socks must be removed at pagodas and monasteries so it is advisable to bring a pair of slippers.
Amazing Oriental Travels strongly recommend all our clients to obtain necessary personal baggage, medical and accidental insurance before arrival. The insurance which is reliable commercially for vehicles are available in Myanmar only at world-chain hotels and international organization. But most of the vehicles we used are of local private own and they insured their property according to the local regulation only and not reliable for commercial use.
